I was up at
4-fricking-30 this morning, on the off chance that I might be able to get in on the first round of DjangoCon tickets to be released into the wild. I didn't have high hopes - I figured a lot of people would be clamoring for them, seeing as how:
- The conference is limited to 200 attendees
- It's taking place at the Googleplex in Mountain View
- All the big names - people like Guideo Van Rossum, James Bennett, Leah Culver - will be there
But I'm a morning person anyway, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I actually had terrible dreams last night - about things like the site going down, my wireless speed slowing to a crawl, that little colored beach ball spinning round and round endlessly ...
I'm glad I got up early - I did have to reboot our wireless router. And apparently the
official DjangoCon site got slammed. I knew there was a lot of interest in the conference, but I guess there was more than even they expected. The site was 503'ing from about 4:55 AM onward.
Thank you, Rob Lofthouse, for twittering the direct registration url! (Something tells he me he hasn't slept much in the last 24 hours, and may not for the next 24 either.)
I can't believe I typed so quickly with so little caffeine in my system.
But it worked. I got my hands on two DjangoCon tickets - one for myself, one for my boss.
Now I just need to know where the Django 1.0 release party will be ...
